Friday Phone Dump + 22 Week Pregnancy Update

It's Saturday, and I'm going to post a Friday Phone Dump. Because it's my blog and I make the rules. We've had one of those can't-catch-up weeks here, so even though I have long rambling notes on my phone and words swirling around in my head that need to be written down, I haven't had time to let them settle. Writing requires discipline, but it also requires grace; this week, I'm giving myself the grace to write later when my mind is clearer.

This week started with crawling off an airplane and getting back to real life after 10 days in Hawaii. Apparently we brought a case of roseola home with our other souvenirs, so we've added sickness to our tasks of reclaiming the garden and lawn from weeds, shaking sand out of our clothes, and catching up on work.

I read Marilynn Robinson's book Lila in Hawaii—which I highly recommend—and all her delicious words about gardening made me itch to get home and play in the dirt. Our first harvest of radishes, lettuce, and strawberries didn't disappoint.

Mom hack: freeze Gogurts and use a sock to make them more comfortable to hold.

On Tuesday, Charlie came down with a fever. The next few days were spent cuddling, administering Tylenol, and pushing fluid. Sick kid hack: freeze Gogurts and serve in a sock for picky hands that don't like the cold. Also, this is Charlotte's hair in its natural state. I swear it would be dreadlocks in a week if I didn't condition and comb it.

A visit to the doctor to confirm: yes, indeed, you've reached yet another milestone of parenthood—this time it's roseola. Congratulations.

"Is it called Roseola because it makes my cheeks so rosy?"

Charlie is feeling loads better today, and we're out of the contagious stage!

Since we're breaking all the rules today, why not throw in a pregnancy update, too?

22 Week Bump Update

How far along: 22 weeks—over halfway already!

Total weight gain: What's a scale? It's summer, I'm pregnant, and I don't care what the scale says. Question answered. :)

Maternity clothes: Exclusively at this point, with the exception of one of my favorite pairs of shorts helped along by a hair band.

Stretch marks: No new ones so far, but I noticed one of my stretch marks from Charlie is a little red. So it begins!

Sleep: The pregnancy insomnia is setting in a little, mixing in with the jetlag to give me a few uncomfortable nights. But mostly I'm enjoying that second-trimester relaxation.

Best moment of this week: Last night, after Charlie's roseola diagnosis, we decided to skip our to-do lists and making dinner and instead ordered our favorite pizza. We sat on the patio and I sipped some of Jason's beer and ate too much pizza while baby girl kicked away and Charlie splashed in her pool.

Miss anything: Working out, beer and wine. Sleeping without a pillow between my legs.

Movement: This little girl is getting so active and I love it! We started seeing her kicks from the outside around 18 weeks, and she's been getting stronger ever since. She mostly moves at night (of course).

Food cravings: Spicy foods, all the carbs.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Just poop at this point, and who can say if that's pregnancy-related or not. Toddler poop is objectively nasty.

Have you started to show yet: We've moved on from this question and should now ask: "Have people asked if you're having twins yet?" The answer is yes, because people have no filter.

Gender: Girl! I get giddy thinking about our two little girl besties.

Labor signs: This question will be a little irrelevant (Lord willing) for many weeks.

Belly button in or out: In, but it's starting to disappear like it did with Charlotte.

Wedding rings on or off: On, but a little tight.

Happy or moody most of the time: Happy!

Looking forward to: Revealing baby girl's name soon! We've decided, but we're waiting a little longer to share.

Who says summer pregnancies are awful? I give you: zero reasons to suck in, an excuse to live in stretchy/breezy clothes, guilt-free carbo-loading, and a tan to go with your "glow."
